Tool Rest Height Adjuster (AKA The Step Chucky)
The Tool Rest Adjuster allows you to easily adjust to the proper tool rest height when switching between different diameter chisel shanks.
Ensuring the proper tool height for your chisel each and every time.
It consists of one Step Chucky and one Stop Collar to fit a 1" tool rest post.
*See note below for use with standard Jet and Powermatic tool rests.
Can also be used on Mini Lathes - see more info below*
With a magnet on the back, it can easily be stored on your lathe.
Due to tool rest design this product will not work on Laguna lathes and on Mini Lathes with less than a 12" swing.
The Tool Rest Adjuster is set-up as follows.
1. MAKE SURE YOUR LATHE IS STOPPED!!
2. Put the Stop Collar on your tool post - do not tighten the set screw yet as it needs to move on the tool rest post.

3. Insert your tool rest post into the banjo of your lathe. Raise your tool rest so that the top of it is parallel to the center point on your live center.
4. Put the Tool Rest Adjuster under the stop collar on the tool rest post and set the stop collar at the 1" height of the Step Chucky mark.
Tighten the set screw of the stop collar.
The Stop Collar only has to be set once.
If you have multiple tool rests, this has to be done to each one.
We recommend purchasing extra stop collars for this purpose.
5. Chose the chisel you wish to use and make note of the shank diameter.
6. Insert the Step Chucky under the stop collar to the appropriate height for the chisel shank.

7. This will automatically set the tool to the center of your live center.

The following pictures show other chisel sizes being set with this handy tool. It ensures a consistent tool height for each particular tool.
This picture shows a 1/8" Chisel being set on a Mini Lathe.
* When using with a Jet or Powermatic full size lathe the height adjustments are limited due to the configuration of the base of the tool rest.
No stop collar is necessary when using one of these tool rests.
Please also note that we have not been able to test this product with all tool rests.
**This product can also be used on Mini Lathes usually a stop collar is not necessary due to the limited height of the tool post.
